146bhp isn't amazing for a 2.2 really, for a 2.2 litre engine I'd be expecting sub 8 second 0-60 and more than 150bhp

its all about the torque.

any more than 146bhp and it would have taken sales from the SRI-T/GSI

dunno, cams, breathing mods, engine management, same old for N/A tuning i guess. not a lot of bang for buck.

if you want turning potential perhaps your better looking for an SRi turbo.

I had a look at them before buying the Ibiza. But they just weren't 'special' enough for me.

Quite nice cars really, a tad boring looking but nothing a nice set of wheels cant sort out. Very nice smooth engine, still not slow. GSI is about 7 secs to 60 2.2 is 8 secs. More of a cruising car though

I worked on a Z22SE for a while and the tuning potential is awesome. I quite like the look of the astra as well.

standard they look slow and are slow,, 140odd brake for a car as heavy and over 1200kg aint good, mate had a 2.2 and hers was one of the most powerful i think on A.S sure it was running 156brake,black car and had carbon bonnet and looked quite nice, was an 03 plate and on its 3rd engine so that cant be a good sign tho

timing chains a common fault on them but thats all i know

id agree with seth you want to tune it best going for an turbo

go for the corrado

Its a great engine. Depends if you like anything else better as there is a bit of choice at that money. Simple factory mods do lift them a lot.

The coupe is better looking than the hatch imo. They are usually better spec'ed as well.

I've got a 1.8 and although its not lightening fast, its smooth and very comfortable
