....in Englands World Cup squad because of Rooney and Owen not being 100% fit etc!

Now I am an Arsenal fan, but surely taking him would be a huge gamble. He hasnt played first team football since he moved to Arsenal in January, and has no experience at the top top level.

Surely there is a striker with more experience that can be named as emergancy back up incase Rooney doesn't make it and incase Owen cant manage whole games.

Discuss

P.S. no arguments please

Where did you read this? Sounds like BS to me. And I'd be angered if he took Walcott instead of Bent, who's the top english goalscorer in the premiership, and done a lot more to deserve a place in Germany.

There is no arguing with the stats = Bent is the top English scorer in the premier league this season - his place in the squad should not be in doubt imo.

I dont think Bent's place in the squad is in doubt, The mention of Walcott was only as a backup player should England be hit with any further injuries up front

IMO The squad is so easy to pick if there is no chance of Rooney or Owen playing.

Will be a big blow for the country to be missing these two, but without them our best chance is this:

Robinson

G.Neville
Ferdinand
Terry
A.Cole/Carragher (depending how fit Cole is)

Beckham
Lampard
Carrick (Holding midfield)
Gerrard
J.Cole

D.Bent

^ We could get away with one attacker, especially when you consider how attacking our midfield would be!

lone strikers very rarely work.

I'm surprised people haven't realised this.

Everton had a successful season in 05, they finished 4th, and they played most the season with a lone striker, marcus bent

I read this, he is going to be an amazing player, but people are getting ahead of themselves thinking of taking him to this world cup...well too early for him.

And as for that team, firstly Carra instead of Rio, and Gerrard will play off the striker.

i want to see carrick playing! i dont think sven will do it though!

What about j cole behind the lone striker? personally i would play bent on his own, either crouch, or i know this sounds syupid, but i think dean ashton could do a hell of a job.

Oh and I'd take Fowler as well, just because he can score goals and he is in good form, his fitness is much better and he has played for England before.

Taking theo Walcott could be a bonus is a way.

Foreign teams know nothing about him, he has electric pace and could prove a surprise package. Just as Owen id.

There are always arguements for and against, I'm agreed with OJC D. bent's form has dipped dramatically and fresh people need injecting into the squad!

Owen was a regular in the Liverpool team well before the World Cup!

Ok, yes but he still proved a surprise to other countries.

I'm not all for taking Walcott as I agree it could be well too early for him but there is a distinct lack of quality English strikers!

Im not so sure. He has worked with that England set-up for years and dont think he'll have the bottle to change things...like drop Beckham and give Gerrard the captins armband!!
