any suggestions i want a new pet, seen as my hamster just died

dont want another hamster, i want something thats a little more cuddly or something that i can let out with out the fear of it burning alive whilst trying to climb into the fire as my hamster had a habbit of doing.

cant get a dog, was thinking of a cat, any other suggestions.
