Didn't know you could drive at 16 if you're disabled? Surely if you're disabled then if anything it should be higher? ( No offence!! )

Think its still 17 if your disabled...cant see them changing the rules for that

However there was a kid in a wheel chair at school & I remember him getting sent on a course when he was 16 to drive round a track round cones with some other's but never on the road! He got a free car also - so maybe worth looking into that if you eligable!!

Welcome mate!

Whoever told you is pulling your leg because 17 is legal age no matter the circumstances in the uk unless you do the on-board training course on private ground but to drive on roads its 17 unfortunately.

Welcome again pal.

Age 16 if you are currently getting Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate (mobility component).

My friend could drive at 16 for similar reasons, you might find it hard getting insured though!

Dont you already recieve a Motability allowance????

Through Motability, you simply turn your mobility allowance into the car of your choice. The most popular option is the worry-free 'Contract Hire' Scheme, which includes:

A new car every three years
Free tyres
Insurance
Road tax
Servicing, maintenance and repairs
Breakdown cover
Window or windscreen replacement

and its not free some people are so naive.

Disability living alloance is a non means tested benfiet in two compoents, gettings around (linked to motability) and care.

If you get the higher rate of the getting around one, £46 a week or something you can either collect it and spend it on what you want like a corsa b for example and use it for costs of insurance loan etc. basically its 200 a month to do what you want with.

Or you can give that money to motability and in most cases a deposit and get a new car every three years with insurance, servicing and tryes include.
