At the moment we have a design module on the go, we are designing a restaurant for a site down in london, we are being taught the environmental, construction and structural aspects. We have just completed a module on history and theory of architecture.
Weve also completed one on the phycology of architecure, I did a project on designing out crime around pullens lane if you know the place, was awarded a certificate from thames valley police for it.

TBH 12k is a bit of a joke....
I was in the same situation as you about 16 years ago and I was on 12k even back then
depends how much fee income you generate really, 18-20k wouldn't be a mile off the mark though, esp if you are up to speed cad wise.
I interviewed a bloke today for a technologist position....he will start on 17.5 rising to 21k after 4 years....although in that time I would fully expect him to be promoted to an assistant.

i've seen cad jobs designing boggo standard kitchen cabinets and the layouts, like they do in MFI etc, can get £25 an hour.
piss easy drawing work, but would get boring
depends where you see the job going, how long you gonna be there etc?
sometimes its more valuble learning more and getting wider experince

Im near enough in same line of work though im a civil CAD technician. Design highways & drainage for housing developments.
Only 19, 2.5 years working experience and currently on an HNC course. Same sort of issue with you small company, just 2 technicians and one Engineer with the boss out most days, so bacially have to check our own work and get on with it.
And i only earn £10,500 which is abit of a shit really, looking for a career change though.
P.S. - I have noticed alot of architects drawings we get are shite, all drawing work seems to be done on about 5 layers, and so is a shite job sorting it out getting things onto right layers so can freeze them off. Hope yours aint like that

i am planning on staying where i am for another year or 2 probably. my dad has his own architectural and development compnay so would like to work for/with him in the future, just want to get experience so i am fully confident and know things inside out and upside down.
and yes tiesto my drawings have lots of proper layers
quite good at cad. however finding it hard to get motivation in ofice just now as job has no prospects apart from some experience
drawings always look prettier with people/cars etc in them, good for planning as it gives the drawings more life

You will never know things inside out....
Things change too quickly and unless you do domestic boxes all schemes will differ.
Myke...will contact you further when the time comes. I dont do domestic, so we will be talking 'buildings other than'....principally two storey schools around the 2000sqm mark. Got the fans to cover that?
