It's a combination of lighting, materials and rendering plugins... that's just a basic test render there.

I can't model in Max, prefer NURBS progs like Rhino or Alias.
Can't beat it for rendering though. Just a pain to import the iges file as it sometimes throws wobblers like on the wheels above where it's filled in the spokes.

stuff weve done so far all pretty simple just combining basic shapes together, done a few things latheing some lines like the wine bottle. Find texturing hardest thing getting that right

One thing I really need to learn is applying pictures to surfaces, like the clocks on a speedo for instance.
I've only been doing this for about three years really, just a case of fiddling with settings til you get it right.

yup, max is an awesome tool when you see the things it can do and yeah the best way to learn is just messing about with it yourself. Our tutors done a load of video tutorials which pretty useful
