Was planning on filling my car with Optimax today as I was informed it would do me favours, could only find a garage open selling Super Unleaded so I filled up. Just wondering what the differences are in the two, and whether I should notice any difference in using them at all.

Got slightly better MPG in the Astra with Optimax, but no difference in performance.

I know it doesn't exactly have an engine to write home about (X14XE) but in my Astra I have tried Optimax, BP SUL, and Tesco SUL, and Optimax seemed like the only one that gave noticable difference in MPG. There may have been a slightly performance benefit as well, but that was probably psychological!

Only get better performance if your engine has a knock sensor to adjust its timing

normal unleaded has octane of 95
super unleaded and optimax have 97+
and tesco are now doing one with 99+

my evo should run on as near to 100 octane as possible as thats what they have in Japan so i run it on bp ultimate or optimax with an additive addedd to.

Most english spec engines unless higly modded should run ok on normal uinleaded as this is what they were designed on.........in saying that the corsa runs a lot better on it cos you can turn the boost up more...........hope this helps

standard 'normal' car = unleaded
tuned, turbo or performance car = optimax or equivalent

and when i say tune I dont mean an induction kit and backbox

i found my 1.6 on tb's is a lot better on optimax and my 1.4 16v sport if fine on cheapo asda stuff.
