I think 2 weeks is enough to do loads and see everything
More than that u would prob get bored
You can get a bus that runs along the main road where all the hotels are into the city- dont do that! Its poverty land there! So sad seeing wee kids scrounging on the streets for food, and there houses are just a little hut

Ive been, went for 3 weeks to Moon Palace (amazing hotel)
Becareful where you stay if its AI, as you need somewhere thats going to be good food and drink as you've paid for it for the 2/3 weeks your there. And outside the hotel is normally expensive (if you dont want shit food) as the majority of hotels there are AI.
There is loads of stuff to do, so 3 weeks wasnt a problem. Mayan Ruins, loads of water sports, really good quality scuba diving, gorgeous beaches, etc. We had loads of trips available to us when we were there, swimming with dolphins, going buggy riding in some forest type place, etc.

yeah we've done loads of research, we are going to be staying various different places, not just cancun - all the accomodation looks surprisingly nice around that price - they all have websites and genuinely do look good value for money
