Please be aware that I work in Scotland so things might be a llitte different but the Road Traffic Act, Drugs etc are all the same UK wide.
I also have access to Law Files etc, so if I dont know the answer I can find out.

Any Officer can check your car under Section 67 Road Traffic Act 1988 if he has been authorised by the Chief Constable (This means he gets given a card to say hes authorised)
This also allows the Officer to drive your vehicle to see if its road worthy

Either £30 fine or V-Rec to make you change them and get it stamped at a MOT Station

Beat Cop, with and intrest in Road Traffic.
Have the same authority as Road Police as far as legislation goes just dont have the specialist knowledge for Tacographs etc.

Is it true you can be done for 'accelerating too quickly'.
A few people on PGAC have been pulled over for accelerating too quickly off some lights in their 106 gti's. Even though they didn't exceed the limit and it was a national speed limit dual carriageway.
Seems a bit petty - no?
