Spent the weekend on my mate's farm and went clay pigeon shooting, first time ive ever shot a shot gun but i absolutely loved it and did better than my mate and the guy teaching us! ( ) I know its gonna be too much hassle to get a license for a shot gun, plus ive got nowhere to use it, but im tempted to get an air rifle for target shooting. What are the laws on these now? Could anyone recommend any decent guns (not silly priced ones ) and/or somewhere to get one?

Yeah completely, the only reason we stopped is cos it was getting dark! Can't wait to go back there after the birds have stopped pairing and shoot something for tea Such an adrenaline rush the first one I hit even though it was just a clay

Many time, cool hobby. Got quite a few trophies from when i used to go clay pigeon shooting when i was younger. Also, used to be a member of a gun club and shot handguns regularly before they was banned. Cant beat the feeling of all that power in one hand (apart from masturbation)

For a decent shotgun you'll be looking at 500 - 800 (Beretta etc) plus they're very illegal if for example carrying in your boot at the wrong time etc plus the licences take ages to sort out
air rifles are easier and cheaper!

Air rifle wise i would personally recommend an Air Arms something like the S200 would be cheap to get second hand and is a PCP (pre-charged pneumatic)
it can also be modified to fire multishot
Personally i would recommend a PCP as it means its very easy to use and generally the power is very consistent.
As far as the law the rifle needs to be less than 12 ft lbs (altho about 8 is needed for target shooting)
you need to be 17 to own one, altho im not too sure if this is up to date.
As far as calibre theres .177 and .22 to choose from theres lots of rumour about which one is better, generally people think that .177 is target and .22 is for hunting... this isnt strictly true.
As for buying i use this place
BAR
Worth the trip if u can make it up there. there website also has all the laws etc on there, aswell as reviews and advice on ammo.

thats what i own btw.

My dad bought a cometa or something air rifle a few weeks ago.
Then went to get a camo net, and came back with another gun, a Venom Viper (a modified version of the webley raider).
He was like it was a bargain - usually all this kit costs over £500. I got it for £400
