I fear that the time may have come to part with my beast 2.0 corsa. I've finally got it running right and i think someone is coming to buy it tonight

Sooooo....

What should i get next?

It has to be around £3k, be 3 door, sporty from the start and not have a conversion, insurance group around 14 max.

Any thoughts?

The 306 has crossed my mind on several occasions, but im not sure if i like the interior, its starting to feel a little dated

i'd agree about the 306 interior, and they arent as quick as they should be

does it matter how old the car is?

GTi-6 was never more than a match for my old Astra GTE 16v... so I reckon you would regret going from an XE corsa to one!

They are if you strip them out and do a very cost effective bit of work to the charger

306 Gti-6's arn't that quick.
