... Seems pretty fooooooking close to me
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4660644.stm

The spokesman said there was no question that either aircraft had strayed from its proper path, which should mean there was a distance of some two and a half miles between them.
I smell some serious BS

i hate planes, they're supposed to be the safest way to travel but with things like that happening and then others blowing up.. i wonder why i have a phobeia and then break down and start panicking when i fly...
saw this on the news this morning, bet they where only about 50 metres or something away from each other..

Surely the wake of the bigger plane, would have forced the dhl palne into a spin?
Im no expert, but i think they are right the photo could be deceptive, there is nothing for your eyes to guage perspective.

From a girl in my office who flys planes.
...... It is deceptive but they cant have been as close as they look, apart from all the warnings, one would be going through the others' slipstream and that would not be a comfortable ride - they would know something was wrong.......

I've a feeling when the DHL planes pilot looked out of the cockpit window and saw a big fucking planes infront of him he would of guessed something was wrong!

Does look close, suppose it depends on the size of each plane as to how close they are?!

I flew JAL to australia
DHL are the 2nd biggest airline in the world as well
And i think you will find there further away then it looks, as they have anti collision stuff that goes mad and alters the planes route if they are on route to hit another plane

they wont be close, a plane that close to another from behind would stall from being in the others jet stream, its an illusion. i bet they were easily a safe distance apart

Like everyone else has said, looks worse than it actually is but still non the less dangerous.
WW2 bombers flew as close as that in tight formation to prevent fighters getting between them.

Maybe they were attempting to dock in mid air?

I know that you retard, I was just refereing to how close planes USED to fly and the distance between the two planes above is'nt really anything major.
