the power figures are upsetting me greatly i drove a 1.6 ages ago and it felt really quick, but the power figures in the latest total vauxhall are poo for a big car really. surely the 1.8 must be decent?

what can you expect to get out of them with a bt of "tweaking"?

lol, thanks in advance

depends what year you go for, the later ones had 123bhp, and are a pretty good engine

with regards to tuning, you can get 250bhp by turboing them with a dbilas turbo kit

or, with a dbilas inlet, you can expect a gain of about 40bhp, which should make it a nice nippy motor

all the other rules apply still of course, like exhaust, filter etc, but you wont see massive gains from them as with any car

i looked at one a while back, and for a 1.8, they arent as bad as the figures suggest

For a 1.8 I think they put out around 120bhp, which is shit.

For example, go up 200cc's to a 2 litre Honda lump in the Civic Type R, that produces 200bhp, how can you get 80bhp from 200cc

because of VTEC, try comparing it to other 1800s and its about the same

bhp isnt the be all and end all anyway, torque and power delivery are where its at

the CTR will give 197bhp @a million rpm, but you cant drive it on the limiter all the time

the inlet is over a grand in fact

shit i know you may not agree, and jamie walby certainly wouldnt, but a grand for the inlet seems extremely expensive lol. would you advise that i not piss about and go for the 2.0 turbo like a real man ? lmfao

well i used to own the 1.8 sri (123bhp) which was nippy but im not sure if the sport has the close ratio box. my old astra was completely even in every gear with a mates audi a3 sport(1.8 20v, non turbo) which are 138 bhp i believe

yeah ive posted about 3 threads regardin mk4 astras today, just need to know about tuning etc now . bit worried by the figures , even more so as i was having a mess about race with a 1.6 astra the other night (totally empty long road, (both just having a laugh for a bit then slowing down when traffic arrived) and i was right on his bumper really without even trying, and tbh my corsa is slow now with 17s on.

depends really, if you are loking for a nice, useable practical car, go for the 1.8, or even the 2 litre as they are cheaper

but, if you want something that looks hard and goes better, go for a gsi, but the prices are about the same as a 1.8 sport, and the cost of the turbo conversion

2.0 sri

you'll find a better 2 litre for the money than a 1.8, as the 1.8s are more expensive at the moment

also, the sri has the better badge

irmscher kit was optional, but there will be a few about to chose from

all have power steering and leccy windows, abs i think, but not sure, also, the 2litre has switchable traction control, which is nice

2.2 is more than the 1.8

basically what happened was vauxhall upped the power of the 1.8, then released the 2.2 and then dropped the 2litre so they didnt over crowd the range

2.2 is VERY good, but a good one will be a good £6.5k

Y reg onwards i believe for the 1.8s, i havnt seen a 2.0 or 2.2 without the irmscher kit

my brother in law has a 2.2, and it had no irmsher kit, he had to buy it after and get it fitted and sprayed himself

his is a 52 plate

actually, the 2 litre may have had it standard, but im not sure
