Hi guys
OK i'm a total novice when it comes to decks, but looking at getting some, i've come across a few starter packs for under £200.
Any advice on makes to go for/stay away from, some i've come across are Numark, Ion, Gemini..
Also whats the difference between belt drive, and direct drive turntables? which is best to go for??
Cheers

Direct drive, but to be honest you need to spend more than £200 to get an even half decent set. Put more money into your decks that you do your mixer for now and when you can afford it get a good mixer too.
If your rich go for Technics 1210, they are the dogs bollocks

try and get direct drive turntables to start off with, and as said just get a basic mixer at first. Them starter packs are shit tbh, best off getting some second hand half decent ones, you wont lose as much then when you go to sell if you get bored or want to upgrade.

Definately direct drives. Belt drives are absolute poop. Gemini are 'ok'. keep away from KAM - they are really shit.
Ive had 1210's and Vestax PDX 2000's. Vestax were far superior to anything ive ever used.

A load of mates have got back into this. You'll be ok if you up budget nearer to £300, are you wanting for mixing or scratching aswell? The scratching ones have straighter arms iirc. My mate just got gemini ones with a 3 channel mixer for £300 another mate got his stantons but with a 2 channel mixer for £300 aswell.

in fairness vestax are as good as technics and then just have a load of crap on them you dont need......
Technics in my opinion LOOK miles better... ive had mine since 1990 and in that time ive have 1 pitch adjustor go mad.... took 20 mins to solder in a new one and had 1 bulb blow which i have yet to fix...

Technics used to be good (and still are to an extent) but they are limited. the build quality of Mk1 and Mk2 were industry standard for a long long while then Vestax came along, same build quality but better features allowing DJ's to mix a wider variety of genres. Technics are the Porsche of the mixing world, Vestax are the Aston Martin.
