doesnt mean she hasnt got some natural ability! Plus maybe Damon pushed the car to its limit so couldnt go any faster, where as Ellen pushed her abilities to the limit and not the car.

track conditions/weather conditions/tire wear. they use the same car also don't they so maybe it may have been a little fucked when Damon drove it? etc

Just take the stickers off the cube to do it, or rip it apart then fit it back together right.

My opinion about all this is the fact that a car naturally gets quicker as it gets older.

It's a known fact that cars will losen up a bit and produce more power.

Infact, the amount of times that car has been damaged I wouldn't be suprised if they had spare cars and each may make different power (as cars do make different power from standard).

Things like tyres etc could also be a factor (put some better tyres on to replace old ones etc).

I also have noticed a trend that people seem to get better and better times now. Clarkson who loves to win and be the best (in all their little games and stuff), would surely have done many a lap originally getting the best he could get.

At the start of the series, everyone who challenged was getting less than clarkson and then slowly as time has gone on they've all gone quicker and quicker and most now get a better time than him.

To be fair though her lines did look v.neat, but not necisarily that quick (one point it showed in car and she took a bend and then left it in the gear it was in, really low revs and struggling)

^ oh yeh also the fact she's v.light may make a difference since the car doesn't have that much power. Could be the difference between having another half person on board.

there is a bit of a difference between a 2yr old car as in the suzuki, and a 15+ yr old car as in the 10k supercars.

This has no basis in fact, it might be a quicker lap staying in gear rather than changing down and reaching a rev limiter soon after. Gear changes take time, and over-revving the power band is disastrous in a situation like that.

especially when you don't put oil it in - then take it round a track and whack it on a dyno... I think that'd make any car lose 100 bhp.

It does have basis since you are basing it on a generic situation. I'm talking about when I saw it myself and saw her come out of the hammerhead with it still in like 3rd / 4th gear (which she was obviously in on the approach) ... she obviously braked turned in and then exited (hence it looking slow) ... then it does a in car shot as she accelerates away and its at like 1.5 k rpm by the sounds of it. A 16v car with a power band over 3k and not much power in general, Ian if you seriously think in this situation keeping it in 4th and the revs down at 1k rpm is going to be quicker at accelerating, you a fool.

However, she may have changed gear down soon after it showed (though still would of lost time) or - quite possibly it was a montage of all the different laps to produce the final video and as such - that one interior shot might of been one of the earlier laps.

Either way I agree, the only thing she had in her favour was her weight and possibly the car is getting quicker (replaced broken parts with uprated parts) or whatever.

She appeared to be doing everything right where the lines were concerned so I can't see her having entered a bend in 4th.

I've no idea on the correct entry speed for that corner but if the box is wide - which for fuel economy it probably is - then second may well be an inappropriate choice.

Revving the ass off it around the corner, which again I've no idea whether you would or not in second, would also place you higher up the power and reduce the amount of lateral grip under acceleration out of the bend.

All just ideas of mine anyway, but I'm a fool
