if u wanted to tune a saxo (make it quicker than a 2.0ltr corsa), what would u need to do? and how much would it cost?
say u started with VTS, i know u can get shitty turbos for them, how much will tht cost altogether? and is there another way to get similar power without engine transplants?
i dnt know anything about them really, but was jst wondering iof its easy and cheapish to get power in a saxo.
any info really

I've got a 106 gti - basically same as a VTS and did a 15.3 1/4 mile with just pugsport decat exhaust + induction kit. That's on par with a 2.0 16v on the 1/4 mile.

supercharger or throttle bodies respond best on the tu engines.
as said a std vts lump will be on par or only a fraction slower than a std 20XE

okay then, maybe a 2.0ltr was a bad example. im after a faster car than that. basically for my next car i want it to be fast and jap preferably. but i do miss the looks of my old saxo and was jst wondering if i could make a saxo that u wudnt be embarrassed driving at over 20yr old cos of the engine size

very true, if I had another one plus endless amounts of cash the spec would go along the lines of:
Eccosse ram air induction kit
Full Piper system with de-cat
Piper 4-1 manifold
Piper Cams
Unichip and re-map
My pug was pushing 150bhp with just the exhaust and induction kit so 170bhp wouldnt of been too far away with cams and chip I dont think
Or you could just get it supercharged

My mate had a 106 GTi which is basically the same. It had an LAD 160 conversion when he bought it which is basically headwork and full decat s/s exhaust. Then he had the cams reprofiled, a different manifold put on, Viper Induction kit and a livemap. It was quick but 2.0 Corsa would of beaten it I reckon

roughly how fast will a turbo'd VTS be? or a tb'd VTS be? obviously theres more than that, like manifolds n tht. but whats the average performance u can get out of one?

I have a video of a saxo VTS turbo just beating a new M3 over a qtr mile...
its all about how deep your pockets are!
I would personally buy something which is easy to tune in the first place!

lol im not expecting to get it as fast as tht.
i know what u mean with buyign a better car in the first place and i probably will do. im not buying car till after sept anyway (when im 21), so am jst looking at ideas for now. at that age i should be after standard cars more than modding but i have really know idea on what to get. dnt want to spend more than 10k.

Right here goes
My lass has a 106gti which puts out 136ATW (so it says on the printout)
It has a Performance head, kent cams, chipped, BMC carbon induction kit and s/s exhaust, she still has the decat pipe to fit so it should be quicker once its fitted

10K
If you really must get all the internals done, low comp bottom end, cams, and throttle bodies, decent management, good exhaust system, with the right mods there you could easily push 210bhp
Remember the 106 rallye that pissed all over the audi through those tunnels, that had the engine re-done to the spec above and pushed around 210bhp at the fly

what i might do is buy one already done. iv jst quickly searched the SSC and there was a turbo'd vtr with 160bhp and a supercharged vtr with similar power. it will be much cheaper this way and then at least when i realsie i want to grow up i can sell it without loosing too much money
jst need to get some money saved and wait till i find a decent one for sale

I looked into this with my old VTS, but for the cost it'd be cheaper going jap and paying the extra insurance. No matter what you do to it you're still driving a saxo at the end of the day, with the crappy dash, no glovebox and all associated french build issues x10 with mods

Erm? - 1 sec you say you want to be beating 2.0 16v corsa's and beating jap cars. next you say your gonna buy a unreliable 1.6 8v turbo / SC - which will only just be pushing what a VTS would have with relatively simple mods... ok good one
If you've set yourself a budget of 10k - why not - not get a saxo and buy something like a Honda S2000!

i didnt say i want to beat jap cars, but want it faster than an average car. and as i said, i dnt knw anything about these engines so dnt knw how reliable they r and what power they give.
if i was a few years older i would go jap and get sumfin like s2k, but at 21 i can only afford insurance on group18 or less cars really. so cnt afford the proper jap machines.
as i said tho, im jst browsing for ideas mate

a vts is ALOT faster than a vtr, ofcourse theres a point in getting the vts over the vtr, i certainly would, 16v engines take to tuning alot better also.
