Don't worry I won't forget.

Did you watch that documentary on BBC2 lastnight about the last 5 survivors from WW1?

My great grandad was killed in WW1, he drove a tank in the first tank battle and was killed.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

this is one of the little things that really anoys me. in the UK people will maybe care for a few hours a day on 1 day a year. obviously there are others who are much more greatful, but as majority of people why we have poppies or to name a WW1 battle and they wont know the answer.

if you ever get the chance goto belgium, Ypres, the city was destroyed in the 1st WW but they built it exactly how it was at the end, and from 1918 they played the last post at 80 every evening to thank everyone who gave there lives for their country, when belgium was captured (after putting up a fight - read that bit frenchy) the germans stopped them playing the last post, but the very day belgium was a free country again in 1945, they have played the last post every day ever since under the arch of the menin gate where thousands of names of people who never were found are carved into the wall. really is a beautiful town.

that programme was very touching, it may of been 80 odd years ago but for those men that were still alive, still sounded like it was yesterday.

eventually i really want to go over there and take it all in, as a programme never can.

i cant thank these people enuff for the freedom that they fought for, many of which never got to see home again, to fight for us, these men i have so much respect for.

lets just hope it never happens again, something of that scale

totally agree russ, these men made the ultimate sacrifice and far to many people couldnt give a shit. people need to realise the freedom and quality of life they have just now is because of the men who fought and died in the world wars and other conflicts.

i for one will be forever grateful
