Get a CBT and ride a RS125 for a year to familar yourself with the road on a motorcycle, its far more hazadous than in a car and you have to be 10x more aware of your surroundings.

Riding a scooter from the age of 16 did indeed make me a better drive as I am far more aware.

Strange that old friends of mine that had motorbikes are still sh1t drivers though

I've just done my CBT and I'm not sure whether to get myself a 125 or just dive straight into lessons on a bigger bike and go for my direct access

I had a 50 at 16 which i rode for a year (back in 2000). after that had a car. Did my direct access this yr and now ride a 600. When i rang up they advised me to do the 4 day course because i hadnt riden properly for so long.

As OJC said...you have to be so more aware on a bike. you dont realise how crap most car drivers are until you have been on a bike for abit.

Do direct access, a CB500 is far from an animal but will get you used to handling a bigger heavier bike

I would recommend as others have said starting off with lower cc or a bike that is not so sport orientated. That's not to say don't do DAS. Just don't be expecting to be a great rider after the course and jump straight onto a sports 600cc +. Plastics are expensive and the bikes are hard to lift off a trapped leg

Yeah, I dont intend to!! Will do the DAS in Jan but will just get something smaller for a while, probably a good 6-12months.

I'd avoid getting a 125 if you are a tad older they aren't much cop and feel totally different to a real bike. I'd get something like a suzuki bandit 600 for a few months then move onto something a little or lot more powerful my mates jumped on his gsxr600 after 3 years of not riding (an r125 he had in 02). He's fine and as long as you are sensible he said it feels safer than his little rs125. I really fancy one but I just can't afford all the learning, then the bike, insurance, and clothing/helmet etc.

I have mates that have

1 R6
2 Ninja's
1 GSXR
1 VFR
