and also, i know uv got to wear a helmet by law but what clothing must be worn?

thinking of gettin a bike, i know they sound crap but my mate jst bought one and for some reason it sounds much nicer than other 125s

Nope, you need to take your CBT to ride a 125cc bike on L plates.

CBT + over 17 = up to 125cc on L plates
Direct Access (under 21)= up to 33 Bhp, any cc
Dircet Access (over 21) = Any bike, any bhp

The first thing you need to do is you CBT, it is compulsary basic training, it doesnt matter how old you are etc, this is what you do first. This is a one day course, if you pass you can ride any 125cc bike/scooter but it must have l-plates, you cant carry pillions and you cant go on the motorway.

Then you'll do you theory test and hazzard perception.

Then you'll have lessons like for your car test, how many depends on how good you are.

Then you'll take your test. Because your 20 you will have to have whatever bike you get restricted to 33bhp, or atleast have a certificate saying it is, you can ride any bike, any size, any where, with pillions.
After 2 years the 33bhp restriction goes, or if your 21 before your 2years is up you can take another test if you want.

cheers mate, great help! so the best thing i could do is get a 125cc on L plates for a year and then when i turn 21 take some tests so i can ride a much larger bike?

and as i asked b4, do u need to wear all leathers and that to ride a 125?

theres no law on what to wear apart from a helmet, so you could ride round starkers if you wanted.

thats okay then, cos i really cnt be arsed/afford to buy leathers. of course if it was a faster bike i would do, but not for a 125cc!

what are the performance figures for these anyway?

fast enough to badly hurt yourself if you come off without any protection. A jacket is a good idea, even if nothing else.

They do just over a 100mph most of them, but dont expect them to last long at that speed.

Im 20, i did my cbt and theory, had 2 lessons this weekend and ive booked my test for next month, bought my bike this weekend after months of saving
If you just do your cbt you cant carry passengers or go on the motorway and worse of all you have to have L-plates. Do your test and widen your choice of bike
