My sister is quite new to the internet, i built her a computer for her house so she could get online, shes just got her phone bill through and there was a call on there that came to £150 , wanadoo had contacted her about it saying they think she has been conned by one of these diallers
BT looked into it and said they couldnt see anything suspicious so she has to pay it. I said id look into it for her to see what action she should take next.
Any sites to look at or advice you guys could give would be appreciated

Yeah - stop going to dodgy web sites.
Unplug the phone cable when she's not online.
Get broadband.

But she barely uses the internet and the main sites she goes to are ebay and online shops. Is there any way she can get out of having to pay?

She'll certainly have to pay, she owes it to the phone company. She may be able to sue the dialler company or something, not sure. Don't not pay it though otherwise BT will start getting nasty.

It happend to me
clicked on a link on kazza (bad idea) and didnt realise until i got a £200 bill

got it traced and it turned out to be some company in germany :S
the only way you can get your money back is from the company but that is unlikly as they ignored my letters and the ISCAS or whatever it is customer service people dont get your money back but just close down the company if your lucky.
But that was a while ago and kazza has long left my PC

if you have a dialer you have DEFINITELY gone to a dodgy site, windows xp sp2 should help a bit as ie security levels are increased so it prompts you b4 installing ne thing

My BT bill has a limit of £50 a month on, maybe she should do this. I think it has anyway as it was set up 2 years ago and never changed it. I'm a 500GB a month user according to Wanapoo What a load of shit

nah as long as you tick the box asking if you want to be able to uninstall it then you can remove it after you have installed anyway.
I have never seen it bugger up a PC anyway. All new PCs come shipped with SP2 anyway.
And if you are really really concerned just make a restore point before you install it
