How hard would it be for a 2.0L Corsa to match the perfomance of a 2.0L 172? They weigh about the same 1000KG so obviously the corsa would have to be knocking around about 170BHP.. also the clio handles better... what would need to be done to the corsa??

I'm trying to talk myself into the Corsa as I believe it would take more abuse and easier / cheaper to maintain...

Please discuss

i do believe the gearing in the 172 (not the cup) is quite long so the corsa will be pretty evenly matched low down in standard form

the corsa chassis at the end of the day, isnt designed around such a heavy engine, gives the car too much lift off oversteer, doesnt really matter how hard the spring rate is

So a 2.0L Corsa will never be as good as the 172? performance wise?

ive raced a 172 and i could pull away from it, only just though. round the twisty cumbrian hill side it was all over me, on the straights i could just pull a car lengths or so.

very quick and under rated i think

its just boggo engine, seems to pull well though.

i think it was more to do with the fact there wasnt enough road for the clio to pass really as why it never got passed me

0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.11
0 - 100 (Secs) : 12.07
60 - 100 (Secs) : 6.96
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.45
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 105.57
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.25
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 107.49

Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 175.50
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.30
0 - 100 (Secs) : 16.11
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.81
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.71

lol, if only it was accurate.....

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 360
Weight without Driver (KG) : 903
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 405.07
0 - 60 (Secs) : 4.16
0 - 100 (Secs) : 9.09
60 - 100 (Secs) : 4.94
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.40
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 116.75
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.20
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 118.93

previous owner reckoned he had the weight down to 903kg's. phase 4 set up ive got is 360bhp.

0-60 4.1 and quarter mile of 12.4. if only.......

actually.

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 156
Weight without Driver (KG) : 875
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 181.15
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.18
0 - 100 (Secs) : 16.19
60 - 100 (Secs) : 10.01
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.62
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 95.03

there are many other factors that doesnt take into account so its not all that accurate, such as gear change times, wheel size, wheel spin, high oncoming wind etc, take it with a pinch of salt
