i wouldnt go for white pasta as it contains alot of simple carbs (sugar) so try and steer clear of eating alot of it.

Stick to a balanced diet imo. If you try and cut out all carbs etc then It's difficuilt to stick to.

eat a proper diet, porridge for brekky, 5 peices of fruit a day, 8 glasses of water, pasta and chicken salad for dinner and a proper tea, fish is good for you, baked salmon is lovely. vary your diet, cut out 90% of your fat, dont get rid of it completely out your diet.
before you workout, have something like potato's for your tea, followed by a green banana, then just before you get in gym, have a yellow banana. green ones contain high potassium levels which slowly release energy to you, yellow ones have very low potassium levels but higher natural sugar levels, so give you more of an instant kick.

ooh, another good way of geting your fruit, is smoothies, make one with your lunch and one in an evening, if you can only stoumach 2, will help replace nutrients after a session.

i'd say go for oats/whey blended with milk before a workout so you've got a decent amount of slow releasing carbs. Milk, contains casienated protein will slow down the absorbtion of whey protein so should last throughout a 45minute workout.

Whey is needed when cutting, your muscles still need protein. Im guessing he doesn't get protein from solid food every few hours so no, whey isn't too OTT.

advantages: fast absorbing and will up your protein count on the go
disadvantages: people think they can live off them.
At the end of the day they are only supplements and should only be used as a supplement, proper food is fundamental.

You should always aim to get most of your nutrition from solid foods but if you cant do that then supplements are a good addition to your diet.
