They are quality. Since I bought mine I've lost all interest in the Corsa and it's just been a pile of bits for the last 2 months.

You just don't realise how badly Corsa's handle until you drive one of these. My Corsa was on coilovers, braced etc and there is no way it could keep up with the Clio on twisty roads, just stupid amounts of grip for a fwd car. Add to that cool little features like automatic xenons, shit hot climate control, nice (if shoddily put together) interior and slightly quicker than an XE Corsa in a straight line, bloody good brakes too.

nice cars I personally would buy one if I hadnt of had an XE'd corsa. Nice as standard comfy and generally a good spec. Also a very nice to drive also.

Its a complete different kettle of fish to XE'd/LET corsas as it has some level of refinement.

Raced one when i had my Y reg 106 GTI and it was neck and neck upto 90!

His sounded really nice to especially in 2nd gear IMO they the normal new clio is horrible to drive though but can't comment on the 172.

As its the same argument which people cain Civic type R's, they dont understand with the clio and type R you get the full package comfort economy and also a car that handles well out of the box. Thats why you spend more money on it. Speed is not the end all and see all of a good car. As much as i love my valver you have to see past the fact its still full of faults.

Clios are not crap I love the old 16v's and Williams series as well as the 172/182 and unless you have driven any of the mentioned cars (which i have driven all) you have no foot to comment on.

You people need to see past you corsa tinted glasses

Like what?

I paid £7k for mine, 36k, full Renault history, 12 months tax, free first mot in August. Being French means corners are actually to be enjoyed and it isn't slower than a standard XE, trust me, I've driven/owned both.

106 gti is only unreliable if you treat it like shit, just like any other car, just make sure you buy one with lowish miles and you will be fine

If you are after a hot hatch there is very little else that compares for the money. 306 GTI's are similar but older, you've ruled out CTR's, there hasn't been a decent VW hatch since the mk2 Golf GTi, Leon Cupra's are more expensive and not as much fun. The only other option is stretching the budget to an Astra turbo.
