been doing work experience for a graphic design company for the last few weeks - unpayed. now hes offered me a permanent job here. its just him on his own in the business, but has own office etc.
he can only offer me £5 hr at the mo, doing 37 hours a week. works out as £750 a month before tax
i was getting payed more at JD Sports
but thing is, its the only thing i want to do, plus its 5min drive from home and i can go home at lunchtime.
just a lil bit dissapointed to be honest.
he said that he wants to pay me double what hes offered me, but the account has told him to hold back at first to see how things go. he expects to take alot more work on though.
the way i look at it is its £750 more than im gettin at the moment, would still preferred more tho

Dave stick with it.
As you say its £750 more than you were getting before
Stick with it get the experience and then see where it goes. If in 6 months its not going any where you have 6 months experience under your belt which makes your CV look better.

It may not seem like much but its a start and with any job there is a possibility of a pay rise, which the bloke has already said he wants to pay you double, so work really hard and it could happen quickly

Sounds like a good opportunity to me. If the guy is currently working on his own, he's going to be very restricted in the amount of work he can take on. With another body there to help, he will be able to take on upto double the workload (therefore double revenue) and you'll soon be given your rise.
So close to home aswell will save you loads on travelling and food costs too.

NMW is £4.85 for 22 and above.
The adult rate of the minimum wage (for workers aged 22 and over) should increase from its present hourly rate of £4.85 to £5.05 in October 2005, and to £5.35 in October 2006. The 2006 increase is subject to confirmation by the Commission in February 2006, to check that the economic conditions continue to make it appropriate.
The development rate (for workers aged 18-21 inclusive) should increase from the present hourly rate of £4.10 to £4.25 in October 2005 and £4.45 in October 2006.

definatly go for it.
Its not THAT as a start is it?
plus it may go up in the future.
But if you pull your wieght, work well, maybe get a year or two under the belt it'll look good on the CV for any future jobs (experience wise), and if you do work well, he'll give you an excellent reference.
