booked our holiday to the Dominican a while back now, good few months. Was meant to be staying in a nice hotel which I'd done lots of research on etc.. and read reviews. The hotel rated highly (number 3 out of about 60 hotels in the Dominican). It shared a complex with 2 other hotels owned by the same people and you could use their facilities etc...was looking forward to it.
Got a letter through this morning saying that there has been an outbreak of flu on the complex and we have to change hotels. We're now staying in the Grand Flamenco Hotel Occidental which is a more expensive hotel but has mixed reviews. It ranked 34 out of 60 in the tables.
Now trying to ring Thomson up to have a rant and try and get a nice room but apparently the office is moving and we wont be able to get through for a while. 
Anyone experienced this shit before? What a load of bollocks
Thomson said we have no choice in what hotel we stay in, we either stay in the Flamenco or cancel
I'm not cancelling

Yes about a week before went to corfu 2 years ago they changed the hotel, but i'd only booked it through teletext so wasn't 'set in stone' anyway, I was still dissapointed as i'd done some digging on the hotel

did you have a go at anyone? the reps on holiday?
Did you get anything extra out of it? I'm expecting something just for being messed around at such short notice so close to the holiday

I say if you book a holiday in a certain hotel you should have a choice in what hotel you go to especially if the reviews arent as good.

I didn't get anything, infact they cancelled my free transfers and we had to pay for a taxi

about 2 weeks before i went to majorca they changed the flight times.
About 3-4 weeks before i went turkey they change the hotel too...

flight time changes I could deal with, I guess if you already had taxis booked etc it might be a bit of a pain.
This hotel looked really nice though, that's why I'm quite gutted I knew a few people who had been there and they said it was great
