I really am considering reshelling my 2.0. By this I mean I would be removing the engine, suspension all the running gear & transfering it onto a later model which is newer. This is an alternative to trying to sort out any probs/ tidy up the current one.

Currentley the lump sits in a 93 shell & due to it being 12 years old the tin worm is starting to appear. Not a good thing when the engine is putting alot more stress on the chassis than a std lump would

As Im selling both my blue & silver corsa's very soon I would have the space in the garage to prepare everything over a period of time as I will still have a car to use (my 2.0) The only time I will be without a car is when we swap the engine over from one car to another

I can get my hands on a w-reg shell for £400

Should I? Yes or No?

Just worried about things like my alarm etc which have a lifetime warrenty that is voided if removed from the car. Can it be reinstalled & by a proffesional to maintain the warrenty?

Any help is very much appreciated

id do it if your going to make something better, i.e strip it totally roll cage etc etc, then you could paint it all up then wack the engine in........ if your not doing that its prob cheaper/easier to fix your car up

Yeah I would have the shell welded in places to increase strength

The old shell is quite tatty & it needs quite abit of work to sort it out to how I want it

Good idea to have the shell strengthened. But reshelling is very labour intensive - especially the wiring. Unless you're intending to do most of it yourself, expect a big bill

Its a full car I am buying but mechanically the std lump is fooked

Would make sense to have a W reg 2.0 rather than a K reg 2.0. Also less chance of rust (for now)

Yeah I've been doing this.

Pro's:

Less rust
gives me more time to prepare & strip the car
Resale value would probably be more
means I dont have to go without a car for afew weeks

Con's:

Gotta mess about swapping everything over
I will then have an empty shell to dispose of

Thats all I can think of......

con: you wont have a car while the engine is being removed, any sort of dent in your swap over will leave you carless?

Yeah but the rust that is on my car at the moment would need to be sorted. IE all cut out & panels replaced. Tht would then have to be sprayed. Could take afew weeks

At least if I can get all the bodywork sorted on my other shell & then it shouldn't take too long to swap over
