Lastnight I did some work on my car and NOTHING went right  !!
New purchases to fit on my C20XE engine...
Thermostat (with seal)
Coolant Temp Sensor
New head to heater hose
Now the problems...
removing the old hose from the bulkhead was a cnut of a job! Absoloutely no room so though feck it and just pulled very hard, it suddenly popped off and my hand smashed into something ripping my fingernail off (in 2degrees centigrade weather)!! So after 10 mins under a cold tap and lots of plasters I go back out to carry on and fitted the new hose...
Then came to undo the old thermostat (3 small hex bolts). 1st one - three turns and the head sheared off! Bugger! 2nd one head completely sheared off straight away, bigger bugger! 3rd one came out. So now im left with the prob of how to get the old old/threads out!! So though it best to remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder head.
Once removed I decided to remove the CTS and temp gauge sender so that I didnt damage the temp gauge sender in the vice - this then snapped off leaving half stuck inside the housing!!
Gave up trying to remove threads and though sod it and buy a new stat housing so now I have to wait for new thermostat housing £30 + Seal, new temp gauge sender £11 and new bolts before I can drive the car again, and I have a very painfull finger and blood all over the rocker cover.

I fitted my colour coded handles last night.
Right pain in the arse bloody Renault are.
The trim is clipped on as well as this sealant/glue.
Then having to get the rod off the handle with absolutly no space, bairly enough room for a torch to shine in i finally got them both on.
Grazed 4 knuckles and two chunks of skin missing on my right hand.
More satisfaction doing it yourself.

What happened to yours Tim? Im sure I will get it sorted but its cost me nearly £100 just to do a coolant change, stat, CTS, gauge sender and new hose!! I want to be spending that on new exhaust system!!
Well hopefully thats the cooling system now sorted. Now to get the oil/oil pressure/oil leaks and rattly tappet problem sorted....
Pretty busy Easter Alex, wont be doing any work on my car, unless something else blows up on it!!

I got my temp sensor today for the LET, aint tried fitting it yet just thought id eat some food and go on CS to ask how the fuck you fit it
Oh and good to see your joinging the club of old shitty sounding engines

dont know.
Its been off the road for two week almost three weeks
was told it was the fuel pressure regulator so replaced that and changed the oil and filter.
Started it and it ran like a dog and after a few minutes it sirted it self out.
but its still got the problem it had before. it will sit and tick over and rev but under any load .ie trying to drive it, it dies

CTS is easy, its just like a spark plug shape, unclip the wiring and think its about a 19mm spanner on the XE ones, pretty sure the LET will be the same. Cant wait to fit the new one as im pretty sure the old one is the original 14 year old jobbie. Just plugged the new one into the wiring (witout actually fitting it into engine) to see what would happen and my car instantly ran much better and throttle response was miles better!! Should know by tomorrow eve and also should have much better fuel consumption!

chaged the dizzy cap and rotor arm, plugs all spark ok, checked leads.

Dont you have an ECU fault/management light - i.e have a fault code reader check?

All that from the coolant temp sensor?
If thats so then that would solve 90% of all the problems wiht my car

Yes well that was with the sensor plugged in but in my hand LOL. Its amazing that you can find a whole engine seriously under performs because of a silly cheap (£12) sensor!!

My Astra is at the garage having the head gasket replaced. £350 later...
I seem to spend about £200 a month on my car fixing/replacing various things. Shame it won't help resale values though... It's not even modded either!

Nah its nothing major, when I first got my car (brand new 1.2 16V) i'd of completely shat myself if it had an oil leak - wouldnt dare drive it etc but oil leaks (minor) are no biggie and you can live with them for a very long time if you just keep topping up and dont mind an oil slick outside your house.
It just teaches you to think sort of outside the box and nothing is ever totally fecked, you can always solve things. I never get down (appart from when the blood is leaking from my body) as I know things can always be sorted out. If the engien went bang bigstyle tomorrow then I just go out and buy a new one for £350/£400 or a top/bottom end. A haynes manual, effort and confidence can go a long way...
