I heard they were getting banned, but GPS one's will still be allowed?

Sorry, I don't understand - whats getting banned then? i.e. is a Road Angel 2 allowed? It uses GPS, but also detects radar guns etc?

So Jodi - a road angel 2 would be illegal then? even though you'd use it for GPS - it has inbuilt sensors for laser?!?

How can the police tell between GPS only systems and one with detectors?

S3 Neo's have GPS written across the top Could you get away with that?

I think it would be very difficult to outlaw GPS detectors as you're basically logging and warning when you approach co-ordinates of the earth, just so happens that there's a camera there.

Detector types that intercept radio waves are obviously easier to implicate.

There's no decent GPS detectors without radar though - as everyone sells the best unit to do all!

The law isn't device-specific. If intercepting radio waves is completely outlawed then any device which does it also is.

Anything that alerts you to the fact that you may be travelling too fast for the conditions is a good thing. Signs do the same job, as frankly, does paying attention to what is going on around you anyway.

The Mk1 Road Angel had an add-on for LASER, so could be used as a GPS-only unit.

I agree with you Ian just saying why waste a couple of 100 pounds when you can look at your speedo

Speedo? I look out of the window to work out what speed I'm doing. If I want to know the revs, I listen to the engine.

I stole that from another website

Because I'd rather not be constantly looking down at my speedo... and secondly it's more for use in places I've never been before.

Yes but on a empty motorway at night its hard to tell

I wouldn't matter then - if it's a motorway at night I'll be fast asleep.

A GPS unit won't help you when you get intimate with a lady

But what if you're racing your mate to pick up your 15 year old gf from the school gates and you've got the road angel set to mute?

You don't have to look at it when it beeps? but if you do - its only a glance.

Thing is - the 106 gti is quite hard to keep under 30, I'm constantly trying to save fuel so put it in 4th and 5th when just poodling along, but even at like 1500 rpm in 5th I'm doing 30! and like just under 2k in 4th I'm doing 30 - so it actually tries to do above 30 and I have to brake against it to go under and because revs are so low its hard to tell your speed from listening to engine.

The thing that gets me with speed camera's and limits - is you may have a stretch of national speed limit, then it drops to 30 with a camera, because there's 2 houses and a school.

Fair play during the day time

but at 2am at night, say picking my sister up from somewhere. There's no real reason for that to be 30 limit! ok maybe 40 or 50, considering its all fields and stuff and a wide road and the houses aren't even actually on the road!

But if you didn't know the road - you could come out of the national speed limit, brake down to say 35 mph - 40 mph at 2am ... and then the camera that is almost behind a bush (thought that was illegal?) - would flash you!

I've been driving nearly 3 years and not got any points - without a radar detector?

The point is - you can be a bit calmer at the wheel and not constantly looking for cameras and looking down at the speedo... if you have a detector.

basically I'd just feel a bit safer at the wheel having one.
