went for a job interview this morning for a job titled 'Brand Assistant'. basically the company supplies all the footwear to the arcadia group, eg topman, topshop, burton, dorothy perkins etc... i woulda been assisting the brand manager by taking phone calls, memos, emails, photocopying, organising couriers etc. interview went well i thought.
hour later my job agency rung me, telling me id been offered the job, and did i want it. i thought about it, and turned it down due to poor pay (£13,000)
just said its a monkeys job and theres no prospects to move up anytime soon, they said fine, and theyd pass on the message.
then they rung back later, saying that id pissed the bloke off, and he weren having me turn him down! she said that hes making a new position for me called 'Visual Manager'. she asked him the details and he said he didnt know, and that hed jus made it up to get me to join the company. so now ive got another meeting with him on fri where i can discuss my job description and a higher salary!!
im chuffed 2 say the least
(bit of an essay that i know )

personally i would ask why he thinks your valuable to the company to make a new position up on the spot and offer you more money.
i would also ask for everything to be put into writing - ie: job position, what you will do, and what you'll earn etc Oh and make sure its all in the contract etc etc

My point is be wary of the bull to pull you in, a rise is only a rise when it hits the bank. Until then its a promise.

ok so i had the new interview on friday, the job title is 'visual merchandiser'
im basically in charge of all the dorothy perkins and wallis stores nationwide. i have to design all the shelfing, backdrops, colour schemes, layout, jus everything to to do with the display really. il also be doing window displays and creating the annual shoe catalogue.
only been offered 15k starting, but have contacted agency 2 ask for 16k for me. but he said if i impress, then i have the potential to earn alot of money, which is good.
the office is only 10min drive for me (orpington) and parking is £3 a day so not too bad.
jus waiting to hear if i can stretch that extra 1K
