I thought about this after seeing Clarkson smoking that diesel round it just under ten mins, i told my mate i could probably get sub 9 in my corsa, (he dont know it will be a 2.0) and i win £100

so do i but thats what im gonna aim for. 10 mins in a big old diesel, my power to weight ratio compared to that diesel (jag i think) shold hopefully see me hitting somewhere around there.

I'm going at Easter time. Aiming all work on the car towards then. Just got a new bottom end and handling to sort out, should see a bit more power than I have now!
I've been round the ring, Clarkson was on it solid for best part of two days on quiet-ish tracks (I was there when they were filming that weekend). NO WAY a novice, unless an immense drive beyond belief will crack 10 minutes in a Corsa. Personally on your first trip I wouldn't bother timing yourself, your just going to push it oo hard on one corner and its game over. A very unforgiving place.
Just go first time and enjoy the very overwhelming experience! Don't try and beat the world with your times!

BTW a bike is not a good thing to go round the Ring in! Too many corners... they are just like annonying pests! And they dont check their mirrors half the time!

You dont need a big engine!!!!!!
I had the pleasure of a good lap round with a chap called Mike Rainbird off passionford (Very knowledgable chap about ring stuff!) in his 450ish bhp EsCos, and we were talking about idea ring cars.
Obvious top weapons are the Porsches (GT3's and the lucky few that have GT2's). But due to the nature of the track (there is a 2 mile straight, but its split as its where you come on and off) its really corner after corner. So a good handling and braking car will do very well! Track knowledge is worth more than anything! The locals fly round in 205's and Golfs, set up perfectly for the ring in times you wouldn't believe!
FWD cars can be very effective there. Either have big power (like mine), or short gearing, though that will hamper you on one or two bits of the track. Get the handling and braking spot on and your sorted for a Ring weapon!
But I saw loads of 1.0's and 1.2's on there and yuo can have as much, if not more fun with them!
Remember coaches go on too, so your not going to be the slowest LOL

cool tim, you got me thinking it's a good idea to go in my car now then - handling will be sorted by next year already lowered, and gonna add a few extra parts to really make it hold the corners
let me know when your next going over, or unless we all arrange a big CS nurburgring weekend away kind of thing lol

LOL no!
But there are villages the track passes by!
Its a right shock when you scream round a corner and there is a bus full of Japanese tourists hanging out of the windows with cameras!
One place you MUST visit of you go is the museum there. Oh my god! Best 9 Euros I ever spent, every ferrari ever practically, plus loads of F1 cars, old engines, loads of racing BMW's etc..... must be millions and millions of pounds worth of stuff there!

If you look on passionford.com on the forum there will be a thread, I'm aiming to go same weekend as them again (for some top passenger rides!)
I've not sorted any accomadation yet either, leaving it until I know my car will be how I want it!
The more the merrier, if you enjoy it as much as I did, you will never forget it! Some of the cars there were truely awesome!

Make sure you give the place the respect it deserves! It can catch out the best of the drivers that take it on!
