i was disapointed with the performance of a gti-6 to be honest, especially against my car, unless he couldnt drive but off the line he didnt pull away till 3rd gear? ok he did pull away then but not by stupid amounts!

You would not believe how much money you loose on them - but if you really want one i know someone who is selling theirs, nice low miles, history etc..

But like above 167bhp should feel very quick and it really does not.

Hi all,

Just popped over from the 306 GTi6 and Rallye club, thought I'd clarify a couple of things

Put a 2L engine in a corsa or TB's on a 106 GTi or VTS and it'll fly , no one is disputing that.

But remember there's a lot you can do to mod a GTi-6/Rallye as well if you're so inclined.

Rallye as standard will hit 60 in 6.9 (7.2 for GTi-6) and go on to 140mph, but straight line speed isn't everything. You have to drive one to appreciate the low end torque, amazing handling and simply how solid it feels going round corners.

Robbo and Teddy - Awful gearboxes? Have you used one? I had a VTS then a 106 GTi and the box is much more assertive and solid than either, and I've never missed a 2nd gear change since getting the Rallye. And of course, having that extra gear is awesome and I couldn't go back to a 5 speed box now.

I would highly recommend one to anyone looking at a new car, they're dirt cheap now (have a look) and quite frankly you can't get better for the money.

you cannot compare ot to a gsi as the gti 6 has 60 bhp more, a standard c20xe with 150 bhp is the same specs as a gti 6, the gearbox being 6 speed is expensive to replace and my friend has had 2 already! There a bad box

Plus i find the corsa more surprising to people and with a good suspension setup will keep with a gti-6

Austin Gearboxes i drove one it was sloppy and horrible and freqently go wrong. Felt quickish but for the same money you could pick up a full leather 4x4 6 speed Calibra Turbo for the same money now however.
Im not saying its not an all round good car because it is - just i think its a little more hyped than perhaps it is!
