Completely random thing to post about but basically 2 years ago my cousin got dignosed with it, i was failing tech at the time so i went to student support who got a shrink to come in and test me. Turned out i have it too.
2 years on i've been reading non stop about it and its answered alot of questions about me, my personality, my learning habits and basically why i always found the world baffling and school a fcukin nightmare!
I'm gonna be councilling kids soon who have been dignosed with it and basically thought i'd offer help and advice on here. Finding out i have it has made me go from a druggy with no purpose or direction to a 2nd year uni student who's breezing through life. My aim now is to pass this gift onto as many people as possible.
So if anyone has any questions atall about themselves, mates, kids, or just general questions give us a shout and i'll chat wiv ya all u want.
Laterz.

School is in session!
Basically, ADHD ( Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and the Similar ADD(Attention deficit Disorder) are learning "disabilities" caused by specific neurotransmitters in the brain not functioning properly. These specific neuros ( theres loads) are the ones that help you concentrate.
Have you ever heard that fish is good for learnin? Its cos within most fish is an omega 3 fatty acid which these neuros use to allow them to pass electrical signals between them. Theyre kinda like two wires with a spark going across them. A Lack of omega3 Fa's makes it harder for these to "spark" and therefore ur concentration level is effected. Do u ever read something and then realise that none of the sentence has sunk in? Thats the essence of it really. Personally i think everyone has it in some level now and again and then theres poor gits like me that cant concentrate most of the time.
The reason i use the term disability lightly is cos its as much of a pro as a con. I used to think i was useless at everything. But i always wondered how when i was 5 i stripped the VCR down to the smallest bits and put it back together again. Then i realised what "intelligence" is. Its simply the NEED to learn.
For example, i often sit in lessons gazing out the window thinking about somethin random like, the way i can take the carpet outta my car to sound deaden the interior, or How i can fix that annnoying thing that keeps happening on my computer.
Now that usually happends to me in lessons i couldnt give less of a shit about. However, there are a few lessons that captivate me and those are the ones i excel in. so basically its all or nothing with me, i either do brilliantly, or fail miserably. Best part is i've stopped caring, i let my mind run free and if i feel like learning somethin then i'll do it. I love boards like this, theres so much to learn and its put in leymans terms. God knows how long i spend on this site!
Why is there ADHD/ADD?
-------------------------------
I wondered this too. i read a good article by some american doctor who thinks that yonks ago everyone had it. Its called the hunter/gatherer persona or somethin like that.
When we were cave men we didnt have to sit infront of a black board of symbols tryin to calculate numbers, or reading endless blocks of text, we just went out, killed our dinner, remembered our way home using landmarks like a specific tree or rock ( this is why learning graphically is so much easier ) and found ourself a piece ov ass

Then slowly over the centuries man became more "civilised" and farming became more widely used. This meant that man evolved from the spontaneous, initiative full, impulsive things we were into beings that could handle doing repetitive tasks all day long. and so man continues to evolve closer to the repetitive task oriented world which is so hard for spontaneous ones among us to conform to.
pros
-----
Little did i know that there were so many pros about it! for example, i have a great sense of direction, not just good, i mean GREAT. freaks me out sometimes. that aside, there have been several key figures who have been suspected to have ADD/ADHD, most notibly albert einstein! He was a mad eccentric and couldnt help but act on impulse. And yes, he was crap at maths. But his grasp and understanding of what was right infront of him was beyond this world, his ADHD helped him to think outside the box, and what i was always slapped for as a kid "painting outside the lines".
Its these characteristics that made him spend all his time on what he excelled in, rather than waste his time with the monotonous shit the rest of the world was concerning themselves with!
springers final thought
----------------------------
Basically i have found that if i find something difficult its because i find learning it to be of noe use to me whatsoever. I come form a long line of engineers in all fields and i can see why. Developing new skills really gives me a buzz, i love learning stuff on here and trying it out and mastering it. Other people might feel this way about literature, others about art.
A rule of thumb for life is to let your mind take u where it wants to go, i wasted to many years fighting it and trying to conform to society in all its lemming ways.
Stand out, Be proud, Be the coloured brick in the wall. If you dont like your job or course....... CHANGE IT!!!! everyone is an expert at something! Very few people ever let their minds discover what it is, the world would be a happier and more peaceful place if we just went with it.
Hope this helps folks.

Like you mate school bored the shit outta me. I was sittin there with some nob tryin to force feed me info about the way that hills and shit were formed when all i wanted to do was take something apart and find out how it ticked, like a pc or a car.
We all at some point say " whats the point ". Thats because it doesnt interest us atall. If something interests you u get hooked, u spend hours doing it. if u get bored, fuck it u move on to something else.
I'm a bad one for half finishing things, cos often, knowing that i could finish it if i really wanted to is enough to make me happy and its usually then that i go " fuck it that'll do". i do that eith everything apart from my car. mainly cos itd look crap if i was that way with it. lol.
Basically what i've come to realise is that NO1 is studid unless they have a condition which limits their brain function considerably. even then its unfair to call them stupid really. Everyones a genius at somethin, only the lucky ones hav the balls to find out what it is.
Remember, even rainman could do some really impressive shit, but he couldnt even tie his shoe laces! You may think that has nothing to do with my point but it does, we all have the same brain, none of them are identical, each one has a slight differance, thats what evolution is all about. A "normal" brain is a myth made up by a doctor. "normal" just means average, average is a statistic, and statistics are basically lies. lol.
