My poor sister thought upgrading her 3GS (Jambo, your old one!) to 5.1.1 was easy!

Now any SIM I put in (it was on Orange before it was unlocked) doesn't get any signal so won't activate (even if I plug into iTunes/over WiFi). iTunes tells me there isn't a SIM even though it does have one.

Stupid thing. Grrrr.

What do I do?

cant remember how I fixed it though haha

Right, I've got it booked and working but no network still (Orange or O2).

I keep reading something about a baseband? WTF is that?

was it an official unlock?

If not you've upgraded the base-band when you updated to 5.1.1 and that more than likely hasn't got a unlock for that.

I used ultrasn0w to unlock but it won't pick up ANYTHING, even an Orange SIM Card. I'm hoping I haven't tanked my sisters iPhone

baseband will be wrong for ultrasn0w to work. its fooked you'll have to get an official unlock.
costs around £20 and takes 48hrs to process

reset go to orange store give imei pay £20 wait 48hrs then activate with any sim card

But why wont it pick up using a Orange SIM. Baseband is 06.15.00

With an Orange SIM in it says Carrier: Orange UK 12.0

Well I did it.

FYI anyone else:

Jailbraked it
Downgraded the baseband
Uninstall ultrasn0w
Uninstall the app engine
Reinstall both
