Just reading the seatbelt thread and this got me thinking, how safe do you think it is to have buckets, harnesses and a roll cage in your car?

pls discuss

i've been thinkin bout this, also, is it safer to have buckets and harness (ie no roll cage) as opposed to just standard seats and seatbelts

Ok so can someone put into words why it will be safer then a standard car with seatbelts. I wanna strip the rallye, put in bucktets/harness and a rear rollcage but im paranoid.

If wearing harnesses though make sure that they are dun up corretly. they are designed to be tight....if you do them up to loose, in an accident your body travells froward and impacts with the belts this has lead to reports of broken clooar bones ribs etc.

Thats why seatbealts have pre-tensioners fiited now

when you mount your harnes, the straps that hold it back at the top, i've heard have to go (if you haven't got a roll cage) at an angle down into the rear seats, where the rear seatbelt clips are mounted. is this the only way without a roll cage? apparently you are not alloud, and is very unsafe to mount them sraight down

there are only 2 positions where harnesses are effective,

right down below u is not one at all, they must be secured at the rear of the car sum how, ideally a rollcage,

this is cuming from sparco, and there FIA approved seats and harnesses

It feels very strange to me, getting in a car with standard seats and belts, doesnt feel safe compared.

Buckets, harnesses and cage is obviously gonna be safer, if u get proper FIA approvd stuff then its all been perfected in a proper motorsport enviroment, if its good enuf for Colin McRae and co, im sure its good enuf for us mere mortals
