if it is the lifters it depends on wheather you hav an 8v or 16v 8v= 8 lifters etc they cost about £12 each, i would re condition the head while ya at it, about £400 pro job, but i would do it myself. Its a head off cams out job

Its not a problem that causes other problems, if you keep your oil topped up they should be fine its just the noise you have to put up with

Its not too hard to do yourself, while ya at it get new valve springs, re grind the valves seats, check the valves and seats for pitting, check the valve guides, you could get the head polished while its off, and skimmed to get a good seal but not compulsory, get a haynes it will take a day and a half maybe less, oh new gaskets too

if you polish the head you should see some gains they say usually 10% increse in power max, you could also put some new kent or piper cams in dont go too lumpy with them though if you get a kit this comes with springs and lifters the 16v kit is £599 the 8v will be cheaper

just get an engine flush and change your oil. It will probably go away. They are easy to clean and shouldn't be a head off job (aint on a 16v)

i've got same problem by the sounds of it aswell, mines ticks all the time, got noisier over the last month or so, changed the oil and made no difference. so is it a camshaft problem then? Thought it was the tappits but they are all well oiled by the looks of things when i took rocker cover off. Mines a 16v so it ain't gonna be cheap is it...doh!
