Strathclyde Police will be testing some new equipment over the next two weeks to test the standard of window tinting

The trial commences on Monday 30 June and ends on Thursday 10 July
The test covers :
windscreen, which must be 75% transparent
front side windows, which must be 70% transparent

Any vehicles found to fail the test will be prohibited from moving
The driver/owner will then be required to arrange for the vehicle to be removed/towed
Drivers may also face 3pts and £60 fine
If the tinting is deemed excessive the FPN will not be offered and drivers may be charged with Dangerous Driving
The Police will also be recording Insurance details to ensure the modification (tinted windows) is declared on the Policy, so there could be a further sting in the tail, for Driving Without Insurance

The equipment is the Tint Man, and is approved for roadside testing
The roadside test will take the form of a road block and random test of vehicles over the test days/times

If the place that tinted your didn't tell you about the legal limit then they are clearly bad. If you tinted your windows yourself, you deserve to have them taken off cause they will be of a knob quality
