1) turn it on
2) read the manual
3) work it out

still not working? go back to step 1.

Does the router have a DHCP server? Is it working correctly?

Have you tried starting again with it?

Uninstall everything you have touched with it and start again, its more likely you cocked somethin up in the setup or forgot to do something the first time round, than it is the hardware/software just doesnt like you.

So try again, then if it still doesnt work, use the keyboard and put it through the mobo.

Did you manage to get everything sorted Adam? If not, I'd recommend flattening the Win98 system and starting from scratch (preferably with XP if you've got it).

I did a similar thing for my Uncle in Birkenhead - Belkin Router with two PC's plugged into it (both running XP) and I think (although I can't remember as it's over six months ago that I did this now) that the NTL broadband modem is plugged into the back of the router.

I then ran the Network Setup Wizard on both and told it that the one in the cellar was the 'host' and the one in the morning room was the 'guest' and that the host had the access to the internet and that I wanted to allow the guest to share the host computer's internet connection.

I personally have the Pipex Solo 2 Go 1MB broadband package, when we originally signed up we got a USB modem (which was crap) as it only allowed one PC to get access to the internet at any one time (I even went out and bought another USB ADSL modem amd plugged that into the filter in my room to see if I could do it that way but that didn't materialise so I took that back then......

I went and bought a Zoom 5 port ADSL Modem / Router in one and I got a friend who works at Liverpool University as a Network Adminstrator to pinch enough RJ-45 cable to connect between the two PC's in our house and the back of the router.

the way it's set up is:-

PC1 very short length of RJ-45 going from port 1 on back of router to NIC
PC2 RJ-45 into NIC then under the carpets to my room and into port 2.

then it's just a case of double clicking on the Web Console and typing in the username / password for the router and then entering the NTL username and password and saving the settings to the router and rebooting the router.

Hopefully then you can double click on Internet Explorer on both machines and be able to use the net.

If you want to set up E-Mail as well then instead of asking to dial using a modem just select LAN.

I got the router from PC World - just "Zoom 5 port ADSL Modem / Router" and it cost me £100.

I'm very happy with the way I've got mine set up as it means that my bro and I aren't fighting to use the net and we can both use MSN e.t.c. and the fact that you can use the net regardless of whether each PC is switched on (I just use a two way adapter for my router and one of those phones that has a small keyboard that pulls out e.t.c.) and leave that switch on all the time but turn the switch for the PC off when I go to bed or leave it.

Hope this helps m8! U2U me if any probs.

Keith
