The vauxhall 4x4 systems is a very complicated piece of equipment. If its been maintaned (which is quite simple really) it will never give any trouble at all. The only problem you have is finding one that hasnt been owned by a lazy idiot who cant be bothered to maintain it.

As for the V6, I drive the 200bhp V6 mentioned above and no, its not slow. Long gearing means it is no use in a boy-racer traffic light grand-prix or a serious 1/4 mile drag. On the strip, I get mid to high 15`s, by the end of the strip I am only part-way through 3rd gear and its about to REALLY start moving but I have run out of road!
On the open road its a different story, almost silent cruising at 90, and if some pesky rep fancies a go, downshifting to 3rd and booting it shows them up a bit!

As for Calibras in general, you either love or hate the image. Mechanically, its basically a cavalier in a skirt so the same mechanical checks apply to both cars. Leather is a nice option, but watch out for dodgy sunroof motors as they can be grief to fix and parts are big dollar.
As for rust, cars made after 1994 have galvanised bodyshells so rust isnt much of a problem except on the front edge of the bonnet which wasnt treated for some reason.
pre 1994 cars have the usual vauxhall rear-arch problem, but its no biggie to fix if you can do it on an astra or a nova, its the same principal to repair the calibra.
I originally wanted a turbo but being unable to find a good one up here meant I went for the V6 in the end.

Id say buy one, but be prepared for a long search if you want a turbo.

Insurance is a stinger, I think they are group 18 or something silly like that.

If you like the idea but not the cost or the shape, look out for a Cavalier V6.
Same mechanicals, but a different shell.

Very under-rated sleeper.
