Has anyone had or experienced driving a car with a sequential gearbox? My dream is to have a car that I can thrash all I like through the gears without the worry of blowing up gearboxes or damaging synchro's.
Basically i'd like to have a rally car on the road.
Is it worth buying a quaife sequential gearkit or is that pointless because the casing is weak?
Any info would be great.

do the quaife boxes not come with a lifetime warranty like their diffs?

They are indeed. Around £6k plus the vat I think... but they are pretty damn awesome. You can opt for paddle shift too if you so desire!

E46 Auto BMW's have a sequential shift too, whilst not a true sequential, it's the same in essence.

Drive one first in anger and see if you like it, personally I feel more at home with a H gate and they're £50 so although its a bit of work to fit one that's a lot of spare boxes for your £6k.

I had a sequential in my bike-powered kit car. Obviously it's different to a 'normal' car with a car engine.
Whilst it was a nice novelty and great if you were gunning it, I didn't miss it when I drove my normal car. I didn't have the option of not having it in my kit car, but if you're looking at £6k vs £50 I personally wouldn't bother unless you're running mega power. Just my opinion of course

There's plenty of places you can safely accelerate a car from a standing start. The only reason the video makes it look dangerous is because of the aggressive gear-changes and wheelspin. But lets be honest, we've all done it.

Indeed, we have all done it, I have done it plenty of times - with a normal gearbox, not quite getting why you need a sequential box to do that...surely the idea of a sequential box is to shorten gear change times to get best possible times etc.
Are you trying to shave seconds off your journey to work in the mornings?

With both my previous car (106 Gti) and this one I've had drivetrain issues. Whether it's engine mounts snapping or gearboxes failing. The solution is my mind is to fit a bullet proof box, diff & mounts. That way I can drive how I like (which in actual fact isn't that aggressively) without the fear of something buggering up.
But admittedly I can't see myself splashing out on one of those boxes just yet. In the future though, definitely!

Engine mounts will still be an issue regardless of gearbox, if anything, with a sequential it's likely to be harsher on them.
Also, the gearboxes still fail and companies like Quaife will only warrant them up to standard torque ratings, the same as their gearkits.
Drive a car with a sequential box before deciding, they're horrific on the road as they work best under load and are really harsh and clunky at part throttle.
Most proper ones need warming up before you use them properly too, the Quaife ones are ok but Sadev and so on won't last unless they're up to temperature, which is why you get them in race cars, not road cars.

The Corsa. Roughly 300 ish Bhp.
I spoke to Quaife and asked them about their sequential gearboxes. They actually use the same box as they use on the K20 Honda but just with a different bell housing. But the thing that put me off was that they said it required regular servicing...approx once a year if it was just a weekend car. And the cost? From £500 upwards depending on what needs replacing....eeek!
I could basically afford to put a fresh recon box in every year for that sorta money...
So recon it is...booked in for Friday.

My only advice is dont.
If you cant be arsed with H pattern synchro gearboxes the hassles with servicing, maintaining and setting up a sequential box will drive you mad.
They are fantastic when they work.... but an absolute pig when they dont.
We had one for GTR... biggest mistake with that car, and cost near 20k in 6 months :/ (purchase, rebuild.... snapped main shaft, rebuild.... damaged, rebuild)
