Thinking about Christmas ideas for my brother. Got him one years ago (like literally 10-15 years ago) and my God, it was such a pain the arse. He isn't the most patient person in the world... but the amount of setting up (hardware and software) put him off using it at all.

Over the past year or so he's really got back into his cycling so was thinking about giving it another go... basically, have they improved since then!? Will spend up to £50 but the nearer to £25 the better. Any recommendations?

I bought one from Lidls for about a tenner. Took about 10 minutes to fit and does everything I want it to.

GPS is the way to go if he likes clocking miles and wants the bonus of mapping routes.

Old school computers that show mileage, speed etc based on the sensor on the wheel are a bit, well old school. Phones do a much better job and these days don't use much power.

he wll probably be using strava on phone to log rides(if not, he should) ....but a cheap bike computer is still handy to show you speed and distance without having to have phone out on show.

The aldi gps200 is a great deal and much better than any cheap computer as you can also track your ride using that and upload to strava - leaving your phone and its battery free for emergencies during the ride

My brother's an absolute technophobe when it comes to smartphones... he's never installed an app lol, I think he made a phone call once

The one linked to looks good thanks, however it's actually been 'decided' that our uncle and auntie are giving it now who have a strict £30 budget! Frustrating, I'll see what I can do.

youll struggle to get anything GPS related for that amount. For whats out there computer related you may as well get a cheap one from Aldi etc, the cheap ones are just as good as the more expensive ones and then spend the rest on some cycle related clothing, decent padded shorts/bibshorts or similar. My computer was £7.99 from Halfords and has seen me through 2.5k miles so far trouble free.
