Always got a few bottles of whisky in the spare room, mostly single malts.

And of course the man cave (ignore the wife's sex and the city box sets)

Mrs got me Glen Elgin 12 y/o for valentines day. It's 43% so got bit of a kick and lingers. Not my favourite and probably the most expensive I've had. Can normally only manage 1 double with ice.

Not that I want to tell you how to drink your drink Deano, but get the ice to fuck. Completely destroys the hints and aromas of a decent malt. Do recommend a wee bit of spring water though.

Outrageous price in this particular link, but have a look at whisky wedges - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whiskey-Wedge-Silicone-Corkcicle-Morning/dp/B00MYSQ9GA

Much slower melting rate and doesn't dilute your dram anywhere near as much.

It's a mates 30th coming up and he's into his whiskey, I on the other hand don't really drink the stuff. Anyone got any recommendations for £60ish? Single malt, something a bit different as he always likes stuff a bit out of the ordinary, ideally I'd get a 30 year old one but I'm gone be priced out the market.

Any idea what he usually goes for? For something a bit different I like Bruichladdich, especially their Port Charlotte bottles. Not the oldest you will get for your money but most likely something he's not tried before.

I would avoid looking at 30yo whisky at that price range.

Not sure whether you have access to a local whisky shop, you can often get limited batch malt that has a bottle number and it will give you date distilled & bottled.

I've usually managed to get a bottle number or distillation/bottled date of some significance e.g. DoB, year of birth, etc etc.

Alternatively, I would recommend something from an island distillery if you want away from mainstream. Something like Caol Ila or Lagavulin comes to mind for me. Entry level for Lagavulin is 16yo so always nice to give as a present.
