Got a letter today from my bank stating a suspisious transaction against my card.

Some cnut cloned my card and brought jewellery in Swiss for 1729

I use this card over the net mainly and only use secured servers. Well that was reasuring-NOT! Luckily i have insuance and i'm covered!

SO be carful peeps on giving out card details over the net, no matter how secure it is!! and get insurance if you do!

Net is more secure that mail-order or using it in a shop I'd much rather give my details to a computer over encryption that would take 1000 years for a single computer to break than give it to some cnut over the phone...

We don't even get ur card details. It's transmitted straight to a merchant account holder...

Only way I can see it happening is someone hacked the secure server where ever you shopped. I knew of a hack on VISA's central computers and over a million cards were stolen direct from them

no what some dodgy companies can do is when they print out the invoice they can clone the details from the reciept, because all necessary details are there. Some online companies take the money straight out of your account when authourized. Other companies use a SSL to confirm ur details are all ok then process it manually. Be careful who u buy from

Yesh. So no incinuations about CS cos we don't even have your details pass through our server let alone store them or manually process

i got a call while at work to see if i would autharise the transaction.
i was well shocked.

the card company only rang me up cause my limits only £1000.

I've had my card cloned a couple of times in the past I think. Both times were traced to petrol stations...

well i dont tend to buy things on my card, only buy stuff where i can actully see my card get processed such as a till in a shop

though, thier is a prob with that too..

i work in front of a till, and when a person signs for thier goods- they sign it on a piece of paper with thier card num and everyfing on- which i think is a bit ruff, cos any1 could take that and then they ahve all the details about the card and holders sig.

Some places only show a part of the card number on the receipt, with the rest of the number as '*******' etc.

But most petrol stations show the whole number and expiry date etc. hence why my card was cloned...

Places that put the ********** on the reciept only do that on the customer copy, the merchant copy has all the details still, this is in case there is a dispute, so that the merchant can prove that you used your card there along with the authorisation number from the bank!!!
