Could just be second hand air from the crank going through the breather hose or dirty air from wherever the breather hose is coming from.

I spose the whole idea of the breather hose is to let the engine breath - if its blocked it would breathe heavily and therefore overfuel maybe. Im not 100% sure but thats the best i can think of.

Yeah it sounds like it - you get that smell if the auto-choke is stuck open a little too. Check your fuel line for leaks or signs of petrol to rule that out. Might be worth sticking it on a tuner at an MOT centre. They maight be able to source the the problem through the emission levels.

yeah its ok now iv sorted the pipe out it doesnt smell, it passed emissions ok on natural idle but lambda reading an co reading was a little too high on fast idle check, lambda showed there was too much air in the mixture, he suggested to take my taipan airfilter off put my standard airbox back on and reconnect the breather to its proper postition wat ya think?

You can always try it - if it clears the problem you know it needs tuning with the taipan airbox on...
