Looks like the Raspberry Pi has already sparked up some competition in the form of another sub-£50 micro computer.

Slightly bigger than the RPi, but with more memory, more USB ports, VGA aswell as HDMI, and 2gb onboard flash memory... priced at $49.
I think the only thing that lets it down is that it's only 720p output from the HDMI.
Also comes with Android 2.3 pre-installed.
Looks good to me

Also Neo-ITX Standard, which should mean it's going to be easier to source decent cases/enclosures for them, with all the connections on 1 side, which is a bonus over the RPi IMO.

It's not a bonus, according to John people who buy these aren't interested in a case

People who they are aimed at, which I still stick by and is just about bang on accurate.
It's not developed for you to have looking nice sitting beside the TV, it's a development platform for education.
Single core and 720p means it won't be very good as an android media centre either.
Probably only got 2.3 because ICS needs a better spec.

Which is correct as it's purpose is a development tool, not a cut price media streamer

They said themselves that they never shipped a case with it as it would have bumped the cost up too much. Still, there are a handful of people that'll knock you up a case and if you have access to the gear then it's reasonably straight forward. Only issue with the RPi is the lack of mounting holes etc
Like John, i'm not overly convinced with this as the spec isn't brilliant especially if you want to use it as a media player (better products out there).

Seems daft to limit the output to 720p, wonder what they're aiming their audience to and for what purposes.

Be interesting to see if it's a hardware limitation or software (hopefully the latter). As you said though, it does seem a bit odd to limit it to 720p.

Hopefully, I was thinking it was something to do with it running Android but that seems a bit daft.
Read the article on Hackaday, they said;
We’re pretty sure VIA is going after the media center PC market here with a low-power board that can easily stream movies or a season of TV shows over a network. At $50, we’re sure the APC will find a home in a few homebrew devices, MAME machines, and carputers.
Again mentioning HTPC, which is a bit daft considering there's other devices out there for 50$ or less.
