I know the passenger footwell is a common problem, but any ideas why the drivers side would be soaking?

Could be a few things: scuttle, door seals, or the seal around the brake servo can get soaked with water and leaks in above the brake pedal.

Edit: Beat me to it.

2 common issues on the c are leaks which cause either of the 2 front footwells to get soaked, on the drivers side its as said above the seal on the plate for the servo, its a time consuming job but well worth doing it, on the passengerside the seal on the fusebox cover can fail causing the water to run in as well, thats a nice easy fix with either a new seal or line of sealant, if you dont want ot do either job just park it pointing down hill
