well only spent about 15 mins trying things out.

Personally prefer the original.

First thing I would've done though is straighten the horizon. Generally you've cleared up the cloudiness of the original just made it too dark in the process.

Assuming you're using photoshop, just avoid clipping the light end of the image quite so far.
