Decided to dig a pit in my garage as theres no headroom for a lift. Has anyone any dimensions and a little bit of advice on how to go about it? Cheers

Aye aknow the basics, cut the floor dig it to more than desired depth concrete the floor build the walls up and them beam across the walls. Just dimensions really and maybe someone who has done one, will get a 1.5t digger to get the heavy off.

Becarfully with water mate as it might just fill up when it rains. Are you near the sea?

Mate has a quite high ground water where he is. Cellar flooded. Pit was fine.

The pit at my old work used to fill up with the tide, was a complete cunt.

Id be very very careful building your own. Ive heard a few horror stories of home built pits breaking up with people in them etc

I would recommend some sort of retaining wall around the hole so the sides dont colapse when youre in there.

the one at my work is a meter wide and about 10 meters long. main this is you can drive a car over it without failling in but close enough to each wheel.

You also need to know your water table levels. They can float out the ground.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I stood on it, the wood snapped and I fell down the fucker.

A car fell on you!

It's lethal, admit it.

That's the woods fault. Not the pit.

I didn't think it was legal to build a pit in a domestic garage anymore - I'd make a gentle phonecall to your council first to check the regs on it.

If you build one and then come to sell your property then you might have to fill it in agani.

You can tank it but you also need to check for any mains services near by, also you need to consider what the ground is made of as digging a pit could cause movement within a property if not looked at properly.

Ours has a drain into the main drain off the house so it never floods, and a retaining wall all the way round. Needs lights in it tho
