When i knocked the left wing mirror vauxhall wanted somethin stupid like £150 to replace it cos it's a sealed unit. So we bought a mirror and a white touch paint thing and did it for about a fiver.

Sealed unit my ass.

In the eyes of a manufacturer, a unit is "sealed" when it is cheaper for them to chuck out entire units than daft little bits. Not only do they get reduced production costs- they can also sell them for more as they are selling an entire unit. Wing mirrors etc cost Vaux very little to make - its the middle men that get the cash.

It varies very much from one dealer to the next GM give guide prices and you generally find that the bigger, chain garages will add a bit to this price where as independant garages will knock a bit off.
