Basicly atm i don't know much about welding, but really want to be able to weld ( stuff like sills and exhausts for example)

Can anyone reccomend an article or explain what would be best way for me to get into welding

i know there is argon, tig and mig welding...

all help apreciated and no need to spam.

buy a mig welder and some old car doors and bits of exhausts and start playing!

Mig welder is the one that runs from mains, right?

mig welder is your best bet, just dont get a dog cheap one as most of the time the wire feed is jolty causing crap welds.

Get a mig welder, a bonnet amd few doors and cut bits out, weld them back in and keep practicing.

Ideally you want a Tig for exhausts. Mig will be fine for the bodywork side though. Tig welders cost a fair bit, but then again so do tidy Mig welders.

Im doing plumbing at college and have been welding lead, i find its one of these things where you have to buy it and learn yourself like lee_wee said, people can tell you but everyone has there own little techniques and ways of doing it.

Wll thats what its like at college anyway, dont know if welding stuff like steel is any different

Mig is pretty easy as long as you have a decent set and have the right AMPS and wire feed speed.

Stainless Exhausts you want a tig welder at about 50Amps.

Mig: Not a lot of current for sheet metal, maybe 70 at the most. Rough rule of thumb is about 1 amp per 0.001" of metal thickness. That gives a maximum current, typically can get by with about 1/2 that current.

great! need to find a mig welder and practice... think i will be told to pay leccy bils though
