drive slower and you'll get more. well don't accelerate as fast helps as well, u can go 40 or whatever just take your time getting to that speed.

I'm getting about 80 miles out of tenner. Thats with some conservative driving and some high revs action! I have a 1.4 16v with K&N57i and new stainless backbox.

do u have the engine management light on?

Check for splits in the air intake pipes to the throttle body or air leaks in the throttle body

also change the ecu coolant temp sensor -back left hand side of the head with a 13mm nut holding it in - this controls mixture according to temperature.

Spray carb cleaner into the breather pipes and the throttle body

change ur plugs and leads and set to the correct specified gap in haynes manual

If you want any more info on the 1.2 8v let me know.

When my thermostat was stuck open the car would never get to normal running temp. This meant the ecu temp sensor detected that the car was cold and so the ECU overfuelled given me awful fuel consumption of about 25mpg. Now that it's fixed, it's back to about 40 mpg. (1.4 8v sp). Check it's running over 90 degrees.

I've done a massive cut out on my front combat bumper......the temp guage on the dash never goes over 90 degrees. So u reckon i shud get a new ECU temp sensor (like suggested above?)

I mean the choke goes off coz it idles nicely at well under 1k.........but maybe its running too lean coz of the big cut out?

.....just seems likes its guzzling loads more than it shud......i want my 40 mpg back i'm skint and i really cant afford to keep putting £20 in every week for bout 100 miles use round town.

Would it make sense - the big cut out on the front bumper, meaning the engine is constantly running too cold, thus wanting it to over fuel? It idles nice and low.

Mate mine constantly runs at between 88-90 (ie either on the start of gauge or slightly below) and I get about 110 miles to £10, thats sometimes bootin it and sometimes not! from what i've been told the corsa B temp gague starting at 90 is like the middle of most temp gaguues and operating slightly below the 90 mark is not a prob and if ya car idling about 750 RPM liek mine dont thnk it too much of a prob but I no expert!

Nah matt nothing to worry about. If yours was running too cold, it wouldnt ever go off fast idle. mine usually sits at or just above 90.

Like i said before though, i really think its because the engines so piss-poor slow. You have to floor it for it to move anywhere. What people forget is that when you put your foot down to accelerate (which usually is to the floor with a 1.2), even though you may not be revvign it alot, the ecu chucks more fuel in the cylinders with the increase in air, so that the engine will speed up. The enigine really doesny accelerate without you opening the throttle up quite a bit.

With a 1.4 etc though, the problem isnt as bad, because the engines have a lot more torque, and therefore will speed up pretty quick, without the need for as much of a throttle opening.

Thats my theory anyway

id also agree with that.
My first nova was a 1.4 SR,then i got a GTE.
The GTE used alot less petrol when driving sensibly as you could drive it at normal speeds by hardly touching the gas pedal.
And my corsa GSi is even better on juice.
A mate of mine used to have a corsa with a X20XE in it and he still got over 30 mpg out of it!
